Simple Abundance

"It was one of those perfect English Autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life....." author P.D. James

This past weekend was certainly one made up of those memory-making perfect autumnal days. Driving up into Michigan Saturday to do some final antiquing for the upcoming Christmas Open House, I found the trees to be breathtakingly beautiful! It was one of those days which make you grateful to be alive.....and isn't that what autumn is all about.......being grateful for all of our abundant blessings?

The tables pictured here are inspiration for your fall entertaining, as were the tables that our guest speaker Cheri Grunske created last Thursday evening for the 45 guests who attended our Tabletop/Entertaining Seminar. Thanks to everyone who attended!

Don't you just love the touch of cobalt blue with the fall colors on the above table? (We currently have the pictured wicker placemats in stock.)

White pumpkins have become my favorite this year----they certainly fit in with anyone's decor. These white pumpkins and the white ironstone create a charming look against the weathered pine table.

I'd love to be invited to a fall picnic like this one! The stacked pumpkins in the garden urn, with a grapevine wreath surrounding the base, would be an easy centerpiece inside or out.

And a cozy table for two in front of the fireplace would be a delightful break during a busy work week!

I hope you enjoyed this wonderful weekend, and found time to count your autumnal blessings!

P.S. It's hard the believe the Christmas Open House is only two weeks from Sunday!!!! Be sure and put it on your calendar.

A Tale of Two Sectionals

Last fall while ordering some new furniture for the Christmas Open House, I decided it would be great to have a sectional on the floor. The week before the Open House, when it arrived, I was horrified to discover that I had ordered two "arm ends" with neither one having the connecter necessary to make it a sectional!! We made it work for the Open House, but shortly after that, it was necessary for me to order two additional pieces with connecters, resulting in TWO SECTIONALS!!! (Needless to say, even the boss can make a mistake!) Now, in getting ready for this year's Open House, we have ordered several pieces of new furniture, and we don't have room for two matching sectionals! So.........we are having a sale of either one of these sectionals ----- at 25% off. We will only sell one at 25% off ---your choice. The smaller one is 86" in one direction, and 88" in the other direction. The longer one is 86" one way, with the other end measuring 111". Made by C.R. Laine, both are a warm neutral wheat color in a slightly quilted-look fabric. Either would be a great buy, and could become the key piece in your living room or family room......and just in time for the holidays. The boss's mistake could be your good fortune!

Smaller of the two sectionals

Larger of the two

Additional SPECIAL BUYS from now through October 8 ----- all jewelry is 50% off (in order to make room for lots of great new pieces). And in order to make room for all of our Christmas papergoods, all paper plates and napkins will be "buy one, get one free" (of equal or lesser value). Stop in today to stock up for all of your fall entertaining!

Hope to see you soon!

Get Cozy for Fall!

With the welcome change to crisp, cool weather this weekend, I decided today was a great day to add some "Fall" to my decor at home. And so, after doing a little fall housecleaning, I filled two gold crockery vases with silk bittersweet and real dried hydrangeas for my mantel, added a paisley shawl to my dining room table under an arrangement of sunflowers and zinnias, and filled a basket on my coffee table with velvet pumpkins and felt acorns. Tonight, as I lit a candle and closed the window against the too cool night air, it seemed SO cozy! Now is a great time for you too to add some fall to your home -----here are pictures of several new items in the shop that will make that transition an easy one!

Above is a trio of pumpkins which could be the start of a wonderful centerpiece on your dining room table. Place it on a bed of moss, add a few votives on tiny cupcake stands, and viola -- your table is ready for fall!

A three-foot tall scarecrow will brighten up any indoor corner or covered front porch!

New velvet pillows for Halloween --- one announcing "Trick or Treat", and the other one a mood barometer, with "good witch" on one side, and of course, "bad witch" on the other.......!

A whole new crop of our darling velvet pumpkins with real pumpkin stems, totally handmade in the USA by Daria Knowles.

This darling table runner, complete with silk acorns and leaves appliqued on linen, and beaded for added delight, could run the length of your dining room table or accent a buffet.

A new duet of needlepoint pheasant pillows, in luscious fall colors, could become a focal point on your sofa.

Gorgeous new pears are a great fall filler for your favorite silver bowl or that rustic wicker basket on your coffee table.

What a cute new tray depicting our favorite fall critter --- the squirrel!

This magnifying glass on a stand and a unique little gold clock, stacked on some leather books, will add a touch of class to your desk or library table.

Add a cozy new throw to your sofa for those cool autumn evenings, buy a Cinnamon and Cider or Pumpkin Spice candle for the wonderful smell of fall, or pick up a bag of acorns to fill a pretty silver dish on an end table. Fall is such a cozy time ----make your home a reflection of that wonderful season. Plan now for a shopping jaunt to Interiors Etc. to find that spark of inspiration for your own fall decorating --- autumn's definitely here. See you soon!

Happy Labor Day!

Just a little note to tell everyone that we will be closed this Saturday (Sept. 3) and Monday, Labor Day, for the holiday weekend. Sometime over this weekend, I'll be posting pictures of some new fall items we've received this week......lots of great new merchandise that has arrived since the Portobello Road opening. And, don't forget that Portobello Road merchandise is still on display, and will be until Sept. 17......there's still time to browse for unique antique items, with a few added this past week.

I hope you all have a safe and Happy Labor Day, and that soon after, you'll find a time to stop in and visit us to see all the new autumnal arrivals.
